Actors and writers stand in solidarity against the inequality of our entertainment industry.

Friend—Actors could soon be joining writers on strike.

A few weeks ago, the Screen Actors Guild voted overwhelmingly 97.9% to approve a strike if negotiations with major studios fell through.

With both SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild of America on strike, they may have the leverage to finally tip the balance of power away from corporate overlords like David Zaslav, who threatens to remove classic movies and actual actors from our screens (shutting down TCM and threatening to replace actors with AI deepfakes).

You might think of actors as high-rolling Hollywood stars, but SAG-AFTRA has nearly 65,000 members, many of them lower- and middle-class. This isn’t a battle for more riches—this is a battle for a living wage.

This is the type of solidarity we need to restore America’s middle class.

Our end-of-quarter deadline is Friday night, and we’re still falling short of our June fundraising goal. If everybody reading this email chipped in just $5-10, we’d have everything we need to compete with our fossil fuel- and Wall Street-backed competitors in this primary.

If having another progressive in Congress is worth $10 to you, pitch in! Grassroots power can win this together.

In solidarity always,

Maebe

About our June 30th fundraising deadline:

Every quarter a political campaign has to release its fundraising numbers, and June 30th is our upcoming end-of-quarter deadline. Current officeholders and advocacy groups look at quarterly fundraising when choosing who to endorse, using money as an indicator of “viability.” In a perfect world we’d have publicly funded elections, but right now a grassroots campaign like ours needs to raise at least $150,000 this quarter to show our strength, get key endorsements, and win. We don’t take any corporate PAC or special interest money, but with your grassroots support, this goal is within reach. Please contribute to Maebe’s campaign before June 30th so we can show the power of bottom-up organizing!

She doesn’t take money from corporate PACs or lobbyists, fossil fuel execs, war contractors, etc. In 2022 she was one of two candidates to make the general election runoff for CA-30. In 2024, with an open seat, she will win. Support Maebe’s grassroots campaign >>
