*Village President Kauffman announces appointment to fill Trustee vacancy*

*Village Board to vote on selection at July 5 special meeting*

Village President Ryan Kauffman at Tuesday?s Village Board meeting nominated Karen Novy as Trustee to fill the vacancy following the resignation of Trustee Luis Perez.

The vote to confirm the appointment was set for a special meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5.

?Karen has long been involved in the Oswego community,? Kauffman said. ?She has volunteered her time to our schools, was a founding member of Kiwanis, is involved with the League of Women Voters and previously served on the Village?s Planning and Zoning Commission. She is invested in Oswego?s success today and for generations. I know she will serve the community well.?

Novy would serve until the 2025 Consolidated Election at which time a candidate will be elected to serve the remaining two-year term of the vacant seat.

?The process of appointing the new Trustee has been rigorous and highly transparent,? Kauffman said. ?I have consulted with all Board members to get their input. They have had the opportunity to interview the top candidates and provide their feedback. Karen has lived in Oswego for 20 years and would bring a wealth of knowledge to the Board.?

All Village of Oswego elected officials serve four-year terms on a staggered cycle, with a Consolidated Election held the first Tuesday in April of years ending with an odd number. The Village operates under the Trustee-Village form of government, in which an elected Village Board president and six trustees set policy and appoint a professional administrator to oversee the day-to day operations of government services and programs.
