Friends,
We all remember the tyranny that was forced upon us during the Covid-19
pandemic. State governors, both Democrat and Republican, shut down our
businesses, closed our schools, and punished all who didn’t comply.
The reason most governors were able to do this was because of state laws
granting them “emergency powers” in a time of crisis that gave them a broad
mandate to enforce Covid restrictions. They abused these powers, keeping them
in place far longer than they were intended, and the results were disastrous
with all the evidence showing how lockdowns did more harm than good.
Well, what if we told you that interest groups now want to make those
“emergency powers” the standard in state law. The supposedly non-partisan
Uniform Law Commission (ULC) has proposed model legislation for all 50 states
that would do just that.
The ULC is an entity that has been around since 1892 and works to draft model
legislation in order to provide clarity to areas of statutory law across
jurisdictions. They have now decided that it’s important to give every governor
in America the ability to unilaterally declare emergency public health powers
whenever they want with no ability to challenge them in court.
State Freedom Caucuses have already been fighting back against this abuse of
power. Recently, the Arizona Freedom Caucuspassed
<[link removed]> HCR 2039, a
ballot measure that will constitutionally terminate the Governor’s emergency
powers during a state of emergency after 30 days, should AZ voters approve it
in the 2024 election.
All eleven Freedom Caucuses in our network have vowed in writing to fight
against the model legislation from the ULC. We will always oppose further
concentrations of power in the executive branch and will never allow
politicians to legislate away your rights.
South Carolina:
The SCFC had a major victory in court this week that ensured CRT would be
removed from the Lexington County School District. Last October, the SCFC
obtained a five-minute undercover recording of Tarika Sullivan, a professional
development specialist for EL Education which contracted with the district,
talking about how they plan to get around state laws to teach CRT to children.
The SC Freedom Caucus wasted no time bringing them to court and a settlement
was reached which requires the school district to terminate its contract with
EL Education. The SCFC will always fight to keep divisive left-wing racial
ideology out of the classroom.

Pennsylvania:
Responding to a written request by the PA Freedom Caucus, Penn State
University’s flagship hospital recently disclosed that they are prescribing
puberty blockers and other gender change procedures to children as young as
5-years-old.
Our caucuses will never stand for that, which is why they successfully whipped
their colleagues last week into denying Penn State the two-thirds majority
needed to receive funding from the legislature, denying the university $259
million - not just for their hospital but for ALL their funding.
When hospitals are doing irreversible damage to our children, Freedom Caucuses
will always fight to stop it.
