Dear John,
We have big news regarding the discriminatory Florida bill SB 264 signed [[link removed]] by Gov. DeSantis to ban certain immigrant groups, including Iranians, from owning property. The Department of Justice has just submitted an amicus brief [[link removed]] in support of litigation challenging the law, stating that the ban is illegal and unconstitutional.
We’ve spent months pushing back against bills that ban or restrict property ownership on the basis of heritage – we defeated a similar bill in Texas and supported [[link removed]] the introduction of legislation in Congress to prevent these discriminatory laws from taking effect.
Now, the Department of Justice -- the highest federal authority enforcing laws that prevent discrimination in the country -- has underscored the illegal and discriminatory nature of SB 264.
This is a big step towards safeguarding our community's rights, but the journey is not over yet. We need your support now more than ever to continue to fight back and WIN against all of these discriminatory proposals. Our diverse, multi-ethnic coalition has been relentless in pushing back against discriminatory, xenophobic laws, but triumphing on this issue requires more than just hard work—it takes resources.
As a non-profit, we have to rely on our community for sufficient funding for our organizers, amplifying our press outreach, and sustaining our ongoing countermeasures against these bills. If you can, please make a donation to help power this work moving forward. Power our work to protect civil rights [[link removed]]
Together, we can protect Iranian Americans and all immigrant communities from a new wave of xenophobic bans that restrict our rights. But we cannot succeed if we do not have your support.
Thank you for your dedication to standing up for Iranian Americans and the values that unite us all.
In solidarity, - NIAC Action Policy Team
