| Dear Friend –
I hope you’ve enjoyed a celebratory, safe, and joyful Pride Month! As the month of June comes to an end, I am writing to you all to renew our commitment to improving the lives of the LGBTQ+ community year-round.
As Co-Chair of the WA State Legislative LGBTQ+ Caucus, I am proud of our work this past legislative session to ensure the safety, dignity, and full equality of LGBTQ+ folks.
One of my proudest bills signed into law this past session was SB 5599, removing barriers to safe shelter for youth seeking gender-affirming or reproductive health care. Other life-saving legislative wins this year include increasing access to HIV medication, improving rules for legal name changes, requiring anti-discrimination clauses in all public contracts, and more!
It is no secret that this Pride Month felt heavier than most as hateful rhetoric and concerted attacks against the LGBTQ+ community in state Legislatures across the country are rising.
That is why what we do here at the WA State Legislature matters – our legislative priorities will continue to affirm the LGBTQ+ community and improve the lives of queer Washingtonians.
