In less than thirty years, the First Command of the Capital (Primeiro Comando da Capital, PCC) has grown from a handful of prisoners into a powerful transnational criminal organization, operating in Brazil and Paraguay, and with contacts across the remainder of South America. This event will discuss the causes and consequences of the PCC’s rise and spread, as well as the increasing imitation of its organizational model by other organized crime groups.

After months of investigation, and support from a panel of experts, the Colombian Observatory of Organized Crime will present its first findings into the role of women within organized crime groups in the region. The research will cover their roles as leaders and subordinates, as well as individual profiles.
