Hi, it’s Tennessee Rep. Justin J. Pearson, and in a moment I’m going to ask you to split a $10 donation between the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee and my re-election campaign before Friday's deadline. Here’s why:

Earlier this year, I was expelled from the Tennessee House for speaking out against gun violence at a peaceful, student-led protest. My Republican colleagues tried to silence me with expulsion as they turned a blind eye to constituents’ cries for change in the wake of another mass shooting.

Now, as I make the final push to win back the District 86 seat on August 3rd and return to Nashville as a duly-elected state representative, I am more committed than ever to continuing our fight for change.

I will not sit back and watch as gun violence consumes our country and devastates our communities.

I will fight back against Republicans who protect the gun lobby at the expense of their constituents.

We have the power to bring people together and work through these deep-rooted issues, be a voice for our communities, and fight this violence head-on. By electing state Democrats like me, we can meet this moment and pave the way for progress in states like Tennessee.

Opposing harmful bills that seek to limit Americans’ freedoms, silence our voices, and offer fake solutions to real problems.

This fight is far from over, and it’s not going to be an easy road. Together, we can slowly chip away at the GOP’s stronghold in state legislatures. It’s time to show the Republican Party that we won’t be silenced and subjected to their anti-democratic attacks any longer.
