Friend --

I just dropped my kids off at daycare today when I read this heartbreaking tweet from Fred Guttenberg who lost his daughter Jaime in the shooting at Parkland:

His pain is raw and deep. I can feel how he would give anything to be able to go back and at least say "I love you" to his girls that morning, but he could never have known what was to take place two years ago to this day. In this country no one should ever have to send their kids off to school and wonder if it will be the last time they see them.

I've never had the chance to meet Fred or the other parents that lost their children two years ago, but I've read so many of their beautiful and powerful tributes to their loved ones.

Fred's daughter Jaime shares a birthday with my baby boy. She loved to dance and said that she did it because "it makes me feel possibilities are endless and limits don't exist." I watched the video of the dance tribute that hundreds students in the Parkland community did to honor her life.

Along with Jaime, today we remember Alyssa, Scott, Martin, Nicholas, Aaron, Cara, Chris, Alaina, Gina, Joaquin, Luke, Meadow, Alex, Peter, Carmen, and Helena.

Fred once wrote that losing a child to gun violence makes one "incapable of having a normal day." He and other families across our country who lost loved ones live that pain every day. Today, as we honor those students lost two years ago, is not a normal day. And I hope you join me in remembering what happened and committing to work together to make our world safer for our children, our grandchildren, and our communities.

Thank you,

-- Andy
