Last week, Virginia held its critical primary election, and we were thrilled to see victories in some of our highest-priority races! We’re excited to keep that momentum going as we announce yet another Her Bold Move endorsement, and kick off the important work to help her get elected.

Her Bold Move is proud to endorse Sabina Matos for Congress in Rhode Island’s 1st Congressional District. If she wins, Sabina will be the first Democratic woman, and the first person of color ever elected to Congress in Rhode Island – she will also be the first Afro-Latina EVER seated in our U.S. Congress.

Sabina immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic at age 20, determined to follow the American Dream. In 2010, as a young mom, Sabina ran for and was elected to the Providence City Council – when asked why a young mom would want to enter politics, she responded, “Why not?” Sabina was later elected to serve as Rhode Island’s Lieutenant Governor where she helped expand abortion coverage to state employees and people who are on Medicaid, and joined with 21 other Lieutenant Governors from across the nation to form a Coalition to Protect Reproductive Freedom.

A recent poll shows Sabina has a double-digit lead over her primary opponents. Meanwhile, the Republican challengers are already promoting their extremist views – we cannot afford to lose this seat.

We are only a few days away from a critical EOQ deadline, where donors, pundits, and the media will be dissecting the numbers posted to see if our candidates have what it takes to get elected.
