TAMMY BALDWIN FOR SENATE

Folks,

Fifty four years ago, the New York City Police Department raided Stonewall Inn, a bar in the city’s Greenwich Village and safe haven for the LGBTQ community.

Several brave Americans, led by Black and brown trans activists, fought back against police violence and harassment. Demonstrations throughout the city happened over the span of six days, kickstarting the modern LGBTQ movement for equal rights.

Stonewall is a story of those who came before us and put everything on the line in a demand to be treated with dignity and respect. Those who bravely stood up and spoke out so that others wouldn’t have to live in fear or silence.

Progress was made possible by the Black and brown trans activists who have always been on the frontlines of the fight for LGBTQ rights. We must never forget that.

I’m inspired by how far we’ve come in the past 54 years, but as Republicans continue to attack LGBTQ rights — targeting and dehumanizing trans kids, banning LGBTQ discussion in our schools, and even threatening to overturn Supreme Court decisions that granted our right to marriage equality — it’s clear there is so much more work to be done.

It’s going to take all of us to counter these right wing attacks so everyone grows up knowing they belong.

Will you join the fight to help me continue making a difference and advancing our progress by pitching into my reelection campaign today?

As we celebrate the courage that took place 54 years ago, let us take the next step forward in the march for justice and freedom for every LGBTQ American.

We have real power because those who came before us refused to back down and be silenced. Now, it’s our time to keep advocating for what’s right.

Onward.

— Tammy
