Hey John, it’s
Tara — Founder and Publisher of Courier Newsroom.

In a moment, I’m going to share how you can help us fight back against our
country’s growing information crisis — and explain why this work is more
important than ever.

But if you’re short on time, here’s the gist:

At Courier Newsroom, we’re fighting bad information by providing local
news to the communities that need it most. But for us to keep our work
free and accessible, we need your help to reach our $15,000 end-of-quarter
goal.

[ [link removed] ]The issue is, our fundraising has slowed way down. Hitting our goal by
midnight on Friday isn’t impossible, but it’s going to take us seeing a
big surge in grassroots support today to get us there. Every dollar
donated helps, so will you chip in $5 now?

As the presidential race ramps up, it’s feeling more and more like the
lead-up to the 2016 election that landed Trump in the White House. Here’s
what I mean:

* The mainstream media is giving Trump wall-to-wall coverage, ignoring
important local news stories — including high-stakes elections.
* Trump and his MAGA cronies are flooding social media with
misinformation — with hardly any consequences.
* Local newsroom closures and layoffs are leaving communities in ‘news
deserts’ — without a trustworthy source of information.

John, we’ve
all seen what happens when all of these factors come together. They lead
to widespread distrust in our democracy that divides our communities — or
even stoke political violence like we saw on January 6th.

At Courier Newsroom, we’re doing everything we can to drown out this bad
information with good information.

We don’t follow the same profit-driven playbook as the mainstream media.
That means we don’t hide our stories behind paywalls or publish
sensational stories to boost ad revenue.

Instead, our dedicated, on-the-ground reporters focus on the stories that
matter most to their communities and publish their work online to ensure
we reach as many people as possible. Because of support from grassroots
donors like you, we’re able to do things differently.

But as the presidential race ramps up, so does our work. In order to keep
it up, we have to reach our $15,000 fundraising goal before midnight on
Friday. Due to this fundraising slowdown, we’re in a bit of a time crunch
— but I know how dedicated this grassroots team is. So I’m asking one more
time:

[ [link removed] ]Will you chip in $5 to support our newsrooms and fight
back against disinformation?
