John,

An extraordinary series of events unfolded in Russia over the weekend and the
longer term implications may not be felt for some time. But if there is one
early takeaway for the American people from the recent news, it's how vitally
important it is that our nation has a strong foreign policy apparatus, and that
we put real effort into maintaining relationships with our allies.

Most of those nations look to the United States for guidance and intelligence
sharing to act in concert with allied interests when international situations
arise. This is good for our own country’s safety and security, and also a
component of our our economic power in an increasingly connected world.

While it's true that America shouldn't always act as the world’s police
force, what gets lost in that debate is how important it is to fight for
democratic principles, and how that has a direct impact on our way of life.

That is why I have been so disappointed seeing some voices in the Republican
Party suggesting that we shouldn't be supporting Ukraine or fighting to
strengthen NATO. If we turn our backs on our allies, it will expedite the rise
of autocratic nations like China, embolden other dictators around the world,
and weaken our country.

As we look ahead to the upcoming presidential election, it's my hope that
both parties will offer candidates who understand these priorities and pledge
to stand for democracy. Every president since World War II seems to have
understood this other than President Trump, who degraded relationships with our
closest allies and seems intent on continuing that wrong-headed course.

It's too early to know for sure the fallout from what is happening in Russia
and how it ultimately impacts us here in the United States, but I remain
hopeful that our elected leaders in Washington will understand how important it
is for us to continue fighting for freedom.

That's what I will continue to be focused on and you can count on me to
continue rallying Americans to stand up for a compassionate and more hopeful
country.

I'm out there every week giving speeches, doing media interviews,
communicating on social media and using every other tool at my disposal to give
hope and encouragement to as many Americans as I can.

John - I'm counting on your continued support to ensure that we can keep this
important work moving forward <[link removed]>.
