Dear John,

In three days last June, the Supreme Court’s conservative supermajority radically loosened gun safety laws, overturned the constitutional right to abortion, and limited the federal government’s power to fight climate change. They are not only taking away rights and legal protections that all of us rely on, but also changing the way the Court makes rulings — issuing major orders without explanation, tossing aside bedrock law, and replacing careful constitutional interpretation with radical new approaches.

The hard-right supermajority on the Court is a symptom of a broken system that endangers our rights and our democracy. Today’s justices, on average, sit on the bench for more than a decade longer than they used to. Public trust is at historical lows.

We the people must check the power of this broken institution. We just launched a campaign for Court reform: calling for term limits for Supreme Court justices. We’re taking our plan to the halls of Congress, to the media, and to supporters like you who are willing to fight for our democracy.

We know enacting a change of this magnitude will require significant resources and a commitment to seeing it through. That’s why we’re setting a goal of 1,000 donations to support our work as we take this on. John, will you join us?

Implementing term limits for Supreme Court justices — just like those nearly all state high court judges have — will be a long fight, but we can win it.
