Dear [name],
Last week, FAMM hosted about 70 affected family members, advocates, and formerly incarcerated individuals for Lobby Day 2023. We walked the halls of Congress and met with lawmakers to advocate passage of the EQUAL Act and establishing independent prison oversight across the country.
We also met with staff at the White House and with federal Bureau of Prisons director Colette Peters. Director Peters brought many of her staff with her. They all listened as our families shared their deepest concerns about their loved ones’ health, safety, and well-being in prison. We were so grateful that Director Peters heard our stories, and we hope there will be more exchanges like that with this still-new federal prisons director.
This is what we mean when we say we can’t do this work without you, [name]. Your stories and experiences matter and can reverberate across miles to affect millions of people who need it – and people in the highest seats of power.
Many thanks to our Lobby Day participants for joining us, and thanks as well to those who contacted their representatives last week for our Virtual Lobby Day. You can always advocate with us by visiting our Action Center online: famm.org/actioncenter [[link removed]] .
Thank you for all that you do.
Best,
