In its latest surprisingly just ruling, the court has forcefully rebuked the crackpot "independent state legislature" legal theory that the far-right developed to justify diluting the voting power of anyone who doesn't vote for them. Alito, Thomas, and Kavanaugh all dissented in favor of ripping American democracy apart at the scenes so that right-wing ideologues in heavily gerrymandered statehouses could stack the deck even more in favor of the GOP. It's a huge win for the freedom of our elections — though the fact that this was up for debate at all is a chilling reminder of what we're up against and how far the billionaires and their GOP puppets are willing to go to secure power. Supreme Court makes it more difficult to convict someone of making a threat
It's one step forward, two steps back with this court. For every good ruling we get a slew of bad ones like this, a decision that will make it more difficult to convict a person of making a violent threat, including against the president or other elected officials. It's a convenient ruling given the fact that a particularly radicalized segment of the GOP is growing more comfortable with violent rhetoric by the day.
