Supreme Court Fails to Uphold Constitutional Provision Protecting State Legislatures

• In Tuesday’s Moore v. Harper decision, the U.S. Supreme Court wrongly dismissed the North Carolina Legislature’s claim that its state Supreme Court unlawfully interfered with the Legislature’s authority when the state court substituted its own redistricting plan for the Legislature’s 2021 redistricting plan for the U.S. House seats. 
• This ruling allows partisan state supreme courts to reject congressional redistricting plans drafted by state legislatures. 
• Justice Clarence Thomas predicts in his dissent that this decision will lead to chaos and confusion and swell federal courts with "quickly evolving, politically charged controversies and federal election disputes.” 
• The Supreme Court erred by holding that state courts have the authority to draw up boundaries for congressional districts or change election procedures for federal elections—essentially replacing elected representatives.

Moms for Liberty Invests in Extra Security Ahead of Summit After Receiving Threats 

• The parental rights group Moms for Liberty has invested in extra security for its annual summit in Philadelphia later this week after facing threats following the Southern Poverty Law Center’s decision to place Moms for Liberty on its “hate map” with Ku Klux Klan chapters. 
• The SPLC, which promotes critical race theory, opposes Moms for Liberty’s opposition to lessons that encourage children to see white people as oppressors and black people as oppressed. 
• After the SPLC added Moms for Liberty to the “hate map,” many on the Left launched a pressure campaign to convince Marriott and the Museum of the American Revolution to cancel their events for the summit.
