These numbers are critical.
Hi, John — it's Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey here.
Summer and I have had each other's backs for years. In the state House, we fought hard together for policies that would make a difference in the lives of our constituents. And it was her confidence in me that gave me the inspiration I needed to run for mayor — defeating an incumbent and becoming the city's first Black mayor in 2021.
We both know that it isn't easy being the "first," but we both believe that our elected leaders should actually represent the communities they serve. We know that if we're going to make the change we need, we must be bold and unflinching in our policy making.
During the election cycle, Summer faced millions of dollars spent in racist and sexist attack ads from super PACs. Now, she's facing a critical Federal Election Commission fundraising deadline on Friday, so I wanted to personally reach out.
Falling short of her fundraising goals isn't an option, so I'm asking: Will you please chip in $5 or more right now to support Summer's fight for environmental, economic, and racial justice?

Summer works tirelessly to better the lives of everyone in her district with a strong moral compass and passion for justice — and let me tell you right now, she is a fighter who gets results.
What Summer raises now is integral to the re-election campaign she'll run next year. She already has a GOP opponent, and every dollar raised before this end-of-quarter deadline will go directly to showing the naysayers that Summer is not backing down in our fight for bold, progressive change — and she has the people with her.
If we're going to make Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, the PRO Act, and more a reality, it's all hands on deck. Please, can we count on you to chip in $5 or more now?
Thank you,
Mayor Ed Gainey
