"We are not finished.
We are not finished.
We are not finished."
– President Biden

Last year's passage of the most comprehensive gun violence prevention legislation in three decades proves what can happen with our collective action. Can you continue to push our lawmakers toward lifesaving change? Respond to our urgent poll now:
|
Should Congress ban military-style assault weapons?

John,
One year ago, we passed the most consequential piece of gun violence prevention legislation in 30 years, the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act. Together, we overcame decades of gun lobby obstruction and passed a law that addresses our nation’s gun violence epidemic on multiple, critical levels.
|
This incredible victory was once unimaginable in our country. But the support of grassroots activists like you, John, made it possible.
|
The gun lobby tried to stop the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act from becoming law – and they failed. They failed because activists and survivors tirelessly fought, not giving up until Congress took common sense, lifesaving measures.
|
It is with that same intensity and dedication that we must keep pushing our lawmakers to fight for our safety, because this legislation was just the first step – President Biden is right, we are not finished. The next common sense action that Congress must take? Banning assault weapons.
|
Congress passed this lifesaving package of bills after our outcry for change in the wake of last year’s horrific shootings in Buffalo, NY, and Uvalde, TX. In both shootings, the gunman used an assault weapon. In mass shootings that followed last year – in Highland Park, IL; Monterey Park, CA; Colorado Springs, CO – the gunmen used assault rifles in order to kill as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.
|
Weapons of war have no place in communities, John. Banning assault weapons means stopping the next tragedy, it means making our communities safer. This is a proven fact.
Our collective action worked before and I am asking you to keep fighting with Brady to change our country. Our voices together make us louder than the gun lobby. The majority of Americans want a ban on assault weapons – can you help make it clear that the next lifesaving action we need from Congress is to ban these weapons of war?

Last year’s passage of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act showed us that real change is possible when we act as a united front. This epidemic won’t be solved with one piece of legislation, but if we continue to hold our lawmakers accountable to the people, not the gun lobby, we will end gun violence in the United States.
