Press Release:

Parrott agrees with US Supreme Court Decision and
Launches Exploratory Committee for Congress

Washington County – Earlier today, the US Supreme Court in Moore v. Harper decided that state courts could make decisions that not only affect their state, but impact federal elections.

Delegate Parrott responded by indicating that, “I fully agree with today’s court decision which also upholds Maryland’s decision in the Parrott v. Lamone case from 2022.  In the Parrott v. Lamone case, the courts threw out the 2021 extremely partisan gerrymandered map and asked the legislature to redraw the congressional district maps to follow the Maryland Constitution.”[1]

Delegate Parrott went on to say that, “States should not be able to get away with creating districts that go against their state constitution in order to create maps that only benefit the party in charge.”  Parrott also indicated that, “With this decision, the courts have reasserted state’s rights in federal elections which could lead to states enacting term limits for their congressional representatives and laws that would mandate that congressional candidates actually live in the district they are running to represent.”

Parrott introduced legislation in Maryland to mandate that congressional candidates live in the districts they are running to represent, and he fully supports term limits for federal representatives.

Maryland’s District 6 has been represented by outsiders since 2012 after Congressman Bartlett last served.  As a result of the new map, which more accurately represents the people, District 6 is now a very competitive district.  The current Congressman, David Trone, is now running for US Senate, so the congressional seat is now an open seat.

Parrott indicated that, “My wife and are talking and praying about whether to run in the 2024 election.  We are exploring the race and are very grateful for the huge amount of support that we received in 2022 and for so many people encouraging a run in 2024.”

Thanks again for your help in 2022.  Every action mattered - donating, volunteering, and voting.

I will write more later, but also wanted to let you know that we are having a THANK YOU fundraiser event on Friday, July 7th.  For everyone that helped with the campaign, the event is free, and we would love to have you there.  For those who want to contribute, that is also a huge help as we consider next steps. Please see the flyer below for details.

For our country and our families,
