John, you may not know this, but before I was a representative in the House, I was an engineer.

Some might say that jumping from a career in science and technology to one in politics might seem odd. But my years using my STEM education and in public service have taught me that the two realms have a lot in common. Looking to the data, rejecting misinformation, questioning one’s own biases – these are part of a STEM professional’s toolkit and should be part of a politician’s, too.

But right now, for too many of my colleagues in Congress, science and truth seem to take a back seat to ideology. I’m committed to defending the principles of inquiry and truth in the House, but I can only continue to do so with your support – which is why I’m reaching out ahead of my end-of-quarter deadline. Please, John, will you make a gift of $5 to ensure I can fight for evidence-based change?

I can already see that I’ve used my background to pass legislation that helps Americans. Last year, I helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which makes historic investments in clean energy and is expected to reduce emissions by approximately 40% by 2030 – and I helped pass the CHIPS Act, which made our supply chains more resilient and helped us to outcompete China.

I’ve also spearheaded the Women in STEM and Bipartisan Climate Solutions caucuses to foster exchange and productive policymaking. In this age of misinformation, it seems like everything is being put up to dispute for political reasons – from climate science to COVID-19, election legitimacy to economic policy. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, but to face these troubling trends, we need more solution-oriented, logic and data-based approaches to passing legislation that will help American families.

I’d like to think I’ve been doing this so far. But I can only continue to do so with the support of this grassroots team. The 2024 elections are closer than they seem, and now’s the best time for us to gather our resources to ensure we can continue to spread our message of truth, justice, and progress. Please, John, can I count on your support ahead of my end-of-quarter deadline? Every dollar you donate will go so far.
