Good afternoon ,
Last week we heard the exciting news that the British Medical Association is surveying doctors for their views on assisted dying. For the first time. Ever.
This is an historic opportunity for change in the campaign. Getting doctors on board is a crucial step towards building political support for changing the law. Today, we are launching a crowdfunder so that we can engage as many doctors as possible in this debate - will you be one of the first to donate?
The BMA is currently opposed - a position cited by many MPs as a reason the law didn’t change the last time it was put to Parliament in 2015. But if they are to truly represent the views of doctors and respect the wishes of dying people, the BMA must drop their opposition and move to a position of neutrality.
We must do all that we can to ensure doctors are aware of the harm the current law causes.
With your help, we will produce and distribute nearly half a million leaflets via the UK’s leading medical journals, reaching doctors on their doorstep. Together we can tell doctors that the public, their patients, want greater choice at the end of life. As one of our most committed supporters we thought we’d ask you first.
Last year, with your help, we saw another prestigious medical body, the Royal College of Physicians, change their position - now we can't miss the chance to get our message to the BMA, too.
Please, if you can, donate to our crowdfunder now. The BMA may not ask doctors for their views again.
Thank you for your ongoing support,
Zach Moss,
Dignity in Dying
P.S. This might be our only chance to get doctors from the largest medical association in the UK to hear our argument - please donate today to make the most of this opportunity.
