Bakeries bring happiness—but not to animals

Hi,

When I think of bakeries, happy memories come to mind: a layered birthday cake, holiday treats, fresh doughnuts to celebrate a milestone. But what some bakeries are serving isn’t so sweet.

Lots and lots of baked goods include eggs in their recipes. Unfortunately, lots and lots of those eggs come from hens trapped in a system that hurts them. And baked-in suffering really sours the appeal of that cookie or muffin.

Suffering isn’t sweet

You may know Land O’Lakes because of their butter: rows and rows of branded yellow boxes in grocery refrigerators. But the company is bigger than butter: it sells a wide range of products, including eggs. With annual sales of $19 billion—which is bigger than the budget of the entire state of New Hampshire—Land O’Lakes, Inc. is one of the nation’s largest agricultural cooperatives, operating in more than 50 countries.

For a brand that claims to provide “farmer to fork” products rooted in “sustainable practices,” Lake O’Lakes is being cagey about its commitment to stop keeping hens in extreme confinement.

Land O’Lakes said it would stop forcing hens to live in painful wire cages by 2025, but we can’t find its promise anywhere. And it’s refusing to share progress on how it’ll meet that goal.

When companies go quiet, we get loud! 📣

Disappointingly, Land O’Lakes joins companies like Flowers Foods in hiding suffering behind a wholesome facade. Will you join me in demanding that Land O’Lakes revive its commitment to stop caging hens?

take action

When we work together, I know change is possible. Thanks for showing up for the animals!

With gratitude,

P.S. Suffering is baked into the Land O’Lakes brand. It’s time for the company to deliver on its promises! Let’s send Land O’Lakes a message it can’t ignore!
