Friend –

Imagine being covertly scanned every time you walk by a police officer. Your face would be captured by their body camera and matched with a database of photos – perhaps commandeered from the DMV or stolen from social media.

Facial recognition technology embedded in police cameras would automatically identify you and record your location. Once you're scanned, your information could easily be added to a digital dossier that paints a picture of your life – from your known associates to your religious affiliation to your political activity. As is always the case with police surveillance, immigrants, communities of color, and LGBTQ people would be the primary targets.

Act now: We can save our state from this dystopian future if California passes AB 1034. <[link removed]> This bill stops the police from equipping their officer-worn cameras with face surveillance technology.

Our power depends on the people. We need to flood Governor Newsom and the legislature with messages to successfully defeat the police and surveillance industry.

Send a message using our form and follow this fight as we head to the Senate floor. <[link removed]> If we win, and win decidedly, we'll build momentum for the movement to completely ban police from using this dangerous, racially discriminatory, and anti-democratic technology.

In strength,

Carlos Marquez III
