Make Migration Safer Today |
Immigrants shouldn't have to face danger to find safety. This is the spirit in which the RFM-Panama team is trying to establish their country's only migrant shelter operated by civil society.
It is by no accident that people are increasingly risking their lives to seek asylum. U.S. pressure on Latin America to place visa restrictions on certain nationalities have forced people to take the more dangerous route through Panama.
Official figures indicate that over 105,000 migrants have transited through Panama this year, and this number is only likely to grow. The Panamanian government operates several migrant camps, but these are severely overcrowded and often lack basic necessities such as food or medical care.
The RFM-Panama team is one of the few organizations on the ground working to accompany migrants, but they need your help. As the number of people crossing through the country increases, they need support now more than ever before. |
