How Many Lives Have Been Saved?

June 24th marks the one year anniversary since the US Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, turning the choice for abortion over to the states. What we didn’t know at the time was just how many unborn lives would be saved. Abortion is still legal in many states. Now that a year has passed, we have a better picture of whether or not this ruling has actually made a difference in saving the most vulnerable among us.

Since the Dobbs decision, almost 3,000 fewer abortions on average happened every month in the US. In the 13 states where abortion is completely banned, there were over 65,000 fewer clinician-provided abortions—a 100% decrease from the year before! In the three states that had six-week bans during the past year, nearly 16,000 fewer abortions were provided. According to WeCount, “While there were increases in states that permitted abortion, these increases were not enough to compensate for the losses in states with bans.” 

As we continue to stand up for the unborn, now on a state level, it is critical that we arm ourselves with knowledge about this contested issue so we can help and serve the unborn and their mothers.
