Save the Children Action Network is the political voice for kids.
Friend, it’s been a while since we talked about life at the border.
Title 42 finally ended in May — if you need a refresher, that’s the shameful public health policy that stopped millions of migrants from seeking safety in the US.
Then, President Biden announced a new asylum ban that blocks even more asylum seekers.
Here’s where they stand a month and a half later:
1.
Access
to
asylum
is
extremely
limited.
Harsh
restrictions
leave
many
without
the
support
they
urgently
need.
2.
Shelters
in
Mexico
are
overwhelmed.
Resources
are
stretched
thin,
forcing
kids
to
live
in
dire
conditions.
3.
We’re
seeing
serious
threats
to
asylum
seekers’
lives.
Many
are
stranded
in
unfamiliar
places,
where
they’re
vulnerable
to
kidnapping
and
violent
assaults.
4.
Families
are
waiting
in
anguish.
Plagued
by
fear
and
uncertainty,
some
migrants
report
mental
health
struggles
as
they
face
an
uncertain
future.
Friend, fleeing home is always a last resort.
I’ll reach out soon with an opportunity to speak up for asylum seekers — because they need policies that address the root causes of migration and improve the asylum system.
Not one that forces them to return to imminent danger.
Thanks for being a voice for kids,
