It's time for action, John.
That's why we are setting out to organize one of the single most important climate mobilizations in 350.org history.
Climate activists will create powerful global showpiece actions from the bottom up, along with many smaller, distributed, volunteer-led actions. Our goal is to bring people together on every continent around the globe to demand mass investment in true and just renewable energy solutions and an end to fossil fuels.
Make no mistake: this will be a massive undertaking. We have just a few months to recruit and train the activists hosting the showpiece actions — then we'll shift to scouting locations, permits, visuals, media access, the works.
If we are successful, we will build the people power necessary to convince politicians that it's time to fairly invest in renewable energy solutions instead of the fossil fuel industry. We will re-energize our joint fight for climate justice, and together, we will write the next chapter in the history of the climate movement.
It's so important that we get this right, John. But when we reviewed our budget a few days ago, we noticed that we're falling behind — we're almost halfway through the year, but we have not raised as much money as we thought we would have at this point. If we're going to pull off this worldwide event in November, we have to get back on track with our fundraising before the end of this month.
That's why I'm asking you today if you can make your first contribution to build for our boldest ever events this fall.
November is critically important for our movement — not only is it when fossil fuel companies will report their profits, it is also right before the UN's next global climate talks.
Our worldwide actions with millions of people demanding renewable energy investments will happen just as fossil fuel companies reveal the true scale of their greed, and right as world leaders make decisions about action on climate change.
The first big milestone for our planning is June 30. But right now we are facing a challenging situation:
Fewer people are donating to 350.org this year than they have in previous years. There are lots of reasons for this, from rising inflation to the cost of living crisis, more and more people are feeling squeezed financially.
But we can't afford to scale down our plans, the climate crisis is too urgent for us to not do everything we can. And how much we can raise by June 30 will tell us how big we can go for these mobilizations. We'll know if we can pull off a major, hard-hitting, bold action on every continent, or if we'll have to pull back on our plans.
This is going to be one of the most important mobilizations we've ever organized at 350.org. And if we are successful, we will change the course of our planet's climate for the better. Can you help us get started by making your first contribution?
Thank you for all you do for our climate movement.
In solidarity,
May Boeve
