Forest Health and Pest Workshop with Maine Forest Service Entomologists ? Old Town

Maine Forest Service Entomologists Gabe LeMay and Brittany Schappach present an educational Forest Health and Pest Workshop hosted by Maine Woodland Owners chapter leader Larry Beauregard. This free workshop will be in two sessions; the first will be a virtual meeting with an introduction and overview of common forest pests and diseases in Maine, the second is an in-person walk & talk at Larry's woodlot in Old Town, Maine.

This free workshop will be in two sessions:

  1. First Session?(June 15, 5:30 to 6:30pm):
    Come learn about common forest pests and diseases with Maine Forest Service Entomologists Gabe LeMay and Brittany Schappach. This virtual workshop is designed to educate landowners on the biology and identification of forest pests and diseases, how to monitor your woodlot for pests and diseases, and how to reduce damage. Topics will include ticks, gall-making adelgids, hemlock woolly adelgid, browntail moth, emerald ash borer, white pine weevil, beech leaf disease, and European larch canker.   2. Second Session?(June 30, 9:00 to 11:30am):
    NOTE:(Previous date was 6/17 but rescheduled due to weather)?
    Come enjoy a beautiful woodlot in Old Town, Maine and identify signs and symptoms of common forest pests and diseases firsthand with Maine Forest Service Entomologists Gabe LeMay and Brittany Schappach. This in-person workshop is designed to educate landowners on the identification of forest pests and diseases. We invite you to bring any questions or your expertise to walk and talk with us as we learn together. The woodlot has a wide, easy-to-follow trail and features red oak, ash, beech, hemlock, other softwoods and a large pollinator garden. Topics will include ticks, gall-making adelgids, tent caterpillars, white pine blister rust, white pine weevil, and more!

Please?review the map guide for instructions on how to get to the woodlot, where to park, and details on the trail we will take. This is an outdoor event in the woods; please dress appropriately for the weather and take precautions to prevent tick bites.
