Team —
8 years ago today, the Supreme Court made marriage equality the law of the
land in the decision Obergefell v. Hodges.
This ruling from 2015, that marriage is a fundamental right for every
couple, was the culmination of decades of hard work from activists
fighting for equal rights.
Last year, we were able to further enshrine marriage equality into federal
law with the passage of my bill, the Respect for Marriage Act. It passed
with bipartisan support, and it’s one of my proudest accomplishments.
But folks, despite all of this progress, attacks on LGBTQ rights
are rampant across the country.
Republican-led state legislatures across the country continue to pass
harmful legislation, especially targeting transgender people and LGBTQ
youth. And last year, in the devastating Dobbs v. Jackson decision which
overturned abortion access, Justice Clarence Thomas called for Obergefell
v. Hodges to be “reconsidered.”
Building on the legacy of activists, like those who led the Stonewall
Riots in 1969 and those who used the judicial system to make marriage
equality the law of the land in 2015, I promise to keep up the fight for
LGBTQ rights until every person can live freely, openly, and
authentically.
[ [link removed] ]I’m keeping up the fight for LGBTQ rights every single day in the
Senate, and I’m hoping you can pitch in to my reelection campaign before
our quarterly deadline on Friday so we can keep building on the progress
we’ve made toward equality.

Thank you for all that you do. I have fought tirelessly for the LGBTQ
community to be treated and respected like every other American, but I
won’t stop until we’ve achieved full equality for everyone.
