Eight months ago, I began this marathon Congressional race to give you and our fellow Democrats in the CA-7 a very rare primary choice. That’s because this district hasn’t had a choice of Democratic Congressional candidates since 1998. Imagine that – 22 years! That’s before the invention of Twitter and Facebook, before spell check and wifi, before hybrid cars and smartphones.
But as surprising as this is, even more surprising is we Democrats still don’t have a real choice. That’s because on so many core issues I’m the only Democrat running on issues we all believe in. Consider that I’m the only Democrat in this race who:
- Favors Medicare for All (like 77% of all Democrats, according to the latest Kaiser Family Foundation survey),
- Refuses any corporate PAC money (like all Democratic presidential candidates),
- Backs Comprehensive Drug Cost Reform (like 70% of all voters), and
- Supports the Green New Deal (supported by more than 60% of Democrats).
I’m also the only Democrat in this race who has ever favored Obamacare. That’s because our incumbent, Dr. Ami Bera, continues to proudly tell his town halls that he was never a fan and still isn’t.
I’m also the only Democrat walking his talk for true campaign finance reform by taking the most principled fundraising pledge in the nation (to accept donations only from voters in this district). Further once elected, I will lead the effort to enshrine this principle into a new Constitutional Amendment that will remove 80% of the corrupting money from our elections.
Meanwhile, our incumbent took in the last year $150,000 from 69 corporations fined a combined $99 billion since 2000. In his career, Dr. Bera has also taken nearly $50,000 from some of the nation’s largest opioid makers and distributors – all of which the County of Sacramento is currently suing. This all begs: On who’s side is Bera? Certainly not of our side. Not the side of True Blue Democrats.
This is why I’ve run this 8-month marathon to deliver you this rarest of choices: a pure Democratic representative in Congress with dual loyalties to no corporations, PACs or rich outside donors. Now the choice is all up to you – a choice that we perhaps won’t get again for another 22 years.
Thank you for your consideration and your vote,
