John,
This is not how things work in a democracy. There can’t be a separate pipeline for justice if you are the president’s associate.
Attorney General Barr’s behavior is more fitting for a member of an authoritarian regime than for the Attorney General of the United States of America. He has shown that he will defend the president at all costs, no matter the consequences, and that is an approach that cannot be tolerated.
Barr is unfit to serve as the nation’s chief law enforcement officer. He should have resigned long ago.
Just this week, Barr’s DOJ overruled the sentencing recommendation of prosecutors in the Roger Stone case, leading to all 4 prosecutors to resign from the case. President Trump has since congratulated Barr for “taking charge,” and it was reported that Barr would be involving himself in cases personally interesting to the president.
Today, we filed a complaint with the Inspector General of the Department of Justice, asking them to look into Barr’s pattern of making prejudicial statements about ongoing investigations, in particular the Durham investigation into the origins of the FBI’s investigation into Russian interference into the 2016 election. Barr has attacked the conduct of the FBI and its employees, which could undermine the fairness of the investigation. He keeps taking actions that demonstrate his belief that the President—and those who work for him—are above the law, but we’re not going to let that stand.
Attorney General Barr is supposed to embody justice in the United States. Instead, he is dismantling it.
We called on Barr to resign last spring when he interfered with the Mueller report’s release. Since then, more than 24,000 Americans have joined our call for Barr’s resignation. Sign now to call for Barr’s resignation, and share our petition on Facebook, Twitter, or by forwarding this email to help build momentum and pressure for his resignation.
We’ll continue pushing for investigations of Barr’s dangerous conduct, as well as his resignation, for as long as it takes.
Thank you,
Noah Bookbinder
