This week, I explain how to stop thinking life is meaningless and begin taking steps toward finding meaning. Then, I am joined by Zach Lahn to talk about learner-driven education and the role of schools in shaping children's character. Advice
How To Believe Life Is Meaningful
Life is hard. It is a crucifixion. First of all, we are going to take it seriously. Yes, you are suffering and adrift — and you have your reasons. You take those reasons seriously and you say, despite that, there is more to you than you think.
I ask people, for example, who do you admire? That instinct for admiration is part of the instinct for imitation. Who do you admire? Do you admire people who are completely irresponsible? Do you admire people who cannot take care of themselves? No one admires that.
You start minimally. Can you take care of yourself? At least that? That would be the first thing. And then, is there enough to you so that maybe someone else could rely on you now and then? Maybe a number of people? Maybe your family? You could be the glue that holds them together and mends them. And then maybe there could be more to you than that. Maybe you could be someone for your community, and God only knows how far you could go with that. Those are the people you admire. Try that out. See what happens.

The Most Important Tool In Therapy
What cures in therapy is truth. That is the curative. Now, there is exposure to the things you are afraid of and avoiding as well. But I would say that is a form of enacted truth, because if you know there is something you should do by your own set of rules and you are avoiding it, then you are enacting a lie. You know, you are not telling one, but you are acting one out. It is the same damn thing. So if I can get you to face what it is that you are confronting that you know you should not be avoiding, then what is happening is that we are both partaking in the process of attempting you to act out your deepest truth. And what happens is, that improves people’s lives and it improves them radically. The evidence — the clinical evidence — for that is overwhelming.
