John,
Today is the anniversary of three momentus Supreme Court cases that codified LGBTQ+ rights: Lawrence v. Texas, Windsor v. United States and Obergefell v. Hodges. This is a day to celebrate and to remember the brave people who tirelessly fought to ensure bigoted sodomy laws were overturned and marriage equality became the law of the land.
But there is still so much work to do - and despite the Supreme Court's rulings, these rights are still not completely secure. Just one year ago, Justice Clarence Thomas called for Griswold, Lawrence, and Obergefell to be reconsidered. 35 states ban marriage equality in their state constitutions, state law or in both. Over the last three years, we've seen an all-out assault on LGBTQ+ rights, with hundreds of bills targeting everything from trans kids and gender-affirming care to drag shows and marriage equality itself.
Today, of all days, we have to keep fighting back. To preserve the steps forward we have made, and to secure the future for so many more. If you can make a donation to elect LGBTQ+ candidates who will ensure that Lawrence v. Texas, Windsor v. United States and Obergefell v. Hodges are preserved, please do so here.
Thank you,
Sean Meloy
