Hi friend.

Seeing the gas mask-donned New Yorkers standing beneath the faded silhouettes of skyscrapers and blood-orange skies earlier this month felt like déjà vu.

Californians know all too well that we are in a climate emergency, whether it’s pollution coming from wildfires in Canada or trucks heading to and from Inland Empire warehouses.

Severe storms, flooding, and landslides forced 80% of California into a state of emergency in February and March of this year. President Biden even issued a disaster declaration here in April.

And in the coming months this summer and fall, Californians could be experiencing the devastating effects of extreme heat, drought, and wildfires, not to mention fossil fuels burning all the time.

Declaring climate an emergency under the National Emergencies Act would allow President Biden to begin taking bold actions necessary to mitigate some of the most catastrophic consequences of the climate crisis. Will you sign on to show support for designating climate a federal emergency?

A climate emergency declaration could mean
- ending new fossil fuel projects and drilling
- redirecting disaster relief funds toward distributed renewable energy construction in frontline communities
- marshaling companies to fast-track renewable transportation and clean power generation
- all the while creating millions of high-quality union jobs.

By enacting groundbreaking investments and policies in 2022, California regained its role as a global climate leader. But as we look ahead to the final six and half years before the 2030 deadline for preventing the most devastating effects of climate change, we need scalable action on the federal level.

Even more than last year’s historic Inflation Reduction Act, especially when Congress just paved the way for a disastrous gas pipeline to be completed and the Supreme Court can’t be counted on to protect basic human rights.

The Biden Administration said the Inflation Reduction Act was just the beginning. But with an antagonistic Republican-led House, adversarial Senators like Joe Manchin, and a Supreme Court dismantling the EPA and attacking climate laws, we have to meet this moment.

We still have President Biden, who campaigned on tackling the climate crisis. But he needs an extra push to take this key executive action.

Add your name to tell President Biden that he can be the bold, unifying leader he strives to be by using his power to lead on climate with an emergency declaration >> [link removed]

Thanks for raising your voice.
