John,

New Providence means investing in our infrastructure across the city to connect people and neighborhoods. When I was growing up, the city’s finances were mismanaged which resulted in crumbling infrastructure and neighborhood parks going unattended. Since my administration took office in 2015, we have run balanced budgets every year and realized a real rainy day fund for the first time in decades. This has improved our credit rating grade and has allowed us to invest in our infrastructure in every neighborhood.

With our short term financials in stable condition, we are able to commit to making the largest infrastructure investment in recent history with half a billion dollars in planned investments over the next five years. And we aren’t just going to make these investments in our roads and sidewalks, but design our streets for the needs of the future.

Through our investments we’ve cultivated our urban trails to bring people together and connect every neighborhood to Manton Ave and back again. We are building City Walk to connect Fox Point to Elmwood and Washington Park; we have shaped the 6/10 road work to reconnect Olneyville to Downtown and the West Side; and our new pedestrian bridge literally links two parts of our city.

We’ve also made huge investments in our public spaces. Most of our families don’t have sprawling backyards where kids can run around and play. For most of our families, our parks are their backyards. Since 2015 we have rehabilitated over 90 parks throughout the city, because our parks help create the community we live in.

In the New Providence we are committed to rebuilding our city with great infrastructure. Look out for all of the new projects on the way!

Jorge
