Dear Friends,

Today NRCAT joins the international community in commemorating the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. We are eager to share with you that the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, Ms. Fionnuala Ní Aoláin, released a groundbreaking new report today following her official visit to the U.S. detention facility at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba.

This new report is a clarion call for international bodies and governments to cooperate in a global effort to close this prison -- which stands as a symbol of torture and an extreme violation of human rights. NRCAT has been pressuring the U.S. to close Guantanamo since our founding in 2006 as we work to “end torture in U.S. policy, practice, and culture.” I invite you to donate to NRCAT today, showing your support for NRCAT’s on-going work to amplify this call for the closure of Guantánamo once and for all.

On this day in 1987, the UN Convention Against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment or Punishment came into effect and the nations of the world took notice. Today, our moral call to end torture remains critical. Your donation to NRCAT will enable us to amplify this UN call for a renewed global campaign to close Guantánamo.

Thank you for standing with us!

In community,

Rev. Ron Stief
Executive Director
