Dear John,
I am so excited to share with you some exciting news for Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and the future of our climate. Last week, the Milwaukee Common Council approved the Milwaukee Climate and Equity Plan [[link removed]] . This plan is the product of four years of hard work by activists, community members, and government officials.
This plan is one of the first like it in the country. The goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 45 percent by 2030 and zero by 2050 . What makes this plan truly innovative is how much it prioritizes equity . Please read this fantastic op-ed from Citizen Action of WI [[link removed]] on why equity is at the core of Milwaukee’s climate response.
Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson signed the plan into law Friday [[link removed]] . Please send congratulations to Our Future Milwaukee, Citizen Action of WI, Milwaukee’s Environmental Collaboration Office (ECO), and every elected official, organization, and community member that worked to pass this plan.
We will provide you, our members, with more to learn about the Climate and Equity Plan as it becomes policy. Please keep an eye out for opportunities in Milwaukee to learn more and take action.
Thank you for being a conservation voter,
