Dear John,
We did it. I handily won the Democratic primary race for Senate District 40 with 84% of the votes cast. Your engagement was remarkable and inspiring.
Because of the high voter turnout in Arlington (approximately 16.5 % of registered voters voted) and my decisive margin, I garnered the most votes of any candidate in a House of Delegates primary race or Senate primary race in the Commonwealth. I send a big “Thank You” to my campaign staff, interns, volunteers, donors and well-wishers, I could not have succeeded without you.
I also thank every candidate who ran for office in the June 20 election. Democracy is not a spectator sport and these folks took the time to learn the issues and present a message on how they would govern. This effort should be applauded. Now that the primary is over, we must unite and mobilize to win in November. It is exciting to be part of a dynamic ticket of current office holders and new candidates running for election in Arlington.
I will also be laser-focused on expanding our Democratic majority in the Senate. Because of your early help, I am able to donate staff time and some resources to Democratic senate candidates running in seats that we hope to flip. But these candidates will need our continued support throughout the campaign season. Stay tuned for important updates. Together, we will strengthen the Blue Wall.
