Thanks for all that you do, — Zach ----[previous message]---- Supporter, In the years since the attack on the Capitol — and our democracy — on January 6, 2021, the threat to democracy has only grown. This year alone, state legislators have introduced over 150 bills that restrict the right to vote, and the number is only increasing. More gerrymandering. More restrictive voting laws. Interference in election administration and certification of the results. Unless we take action to strengthen our democracy, far-right lawmakers will use all these tools and more to further rig the system in their favor. We can’t let that happen — that’s why we’re calling on you to help pass the Freedom to Vote Act. The Freedom to Vote Act is a critical legislative package that fulfills the promise of our democracy. It creates national standards to protect our freedom to vote, gets big money out of politics, combats partisan election subversion, and guarantees that congressional districts are drawn to give fair representation to all. Most importantly, the Freedom to Vote Act would foil the vast majority of anti-voting bills that have either already passed or are making their way through state legislatures right now.
Voting rights are the very foundation of our democracy. Ensuring that every eligible voter has access to the ballot box is critical, particularly in this era when far-right state lawmakers continue to pass extreme and unconstitutional anti-voter bills. These opponents of voting rights are counting on your inaction. The MAGA movement is pushing its allies to oppose any expansion of voting rights while curtailing our rights at every available opportunity. If we stay silent and accept the status quo, they’ll win. Our democracy may never recover if we fail to meet this moment and demand change. Whether we can force Congress to act in support of voting rights will come down to grassroots pressure from people like you. Thank you for all that you do, Zach, People For the American Way
