In 2012, I became the first openly gay person to be elected to the United States Senate.

Since then, we’ve made so much progress in the fight for LGBTQ+ equality.

But over the past few years, Republicans have unleashed a nationwide assault on all that we’ve accomplished -- and they’ve indulged hateful, dangerous rhetoric about LGBTQ+ Americans.

In moments like these, history shows that we can’t be quiet. We can’t be complacent.

We need to rise up, speak out, and fight for a brighter, more inclusive future.

That’s why I’m reaching out to you for the very first time. My friends at the DCCC are working hard to restore our Democratic House Majority and defeat the extreme MAGA Republicans who now hold power. But now, extremist Republicans are trying to take us to a darker, scarier time for LGBTQ+ Americans.
