Dear Neighbor,
I have been hard at work in Washington promoting important legislation that directly benefits you. I'm excited to share with you a few highlights from my latest work and other notable achievements. Keep reading to stay informed.
Addressing the Debt Ceiling
The recent bipartisan debt limit agreement, known as the Fiscal Responsibility Act, will allow the U.S. to pay its debts and continue carrying out programs that millions rely on.
I voted yes for this legislation because, while it’s far from perfect, it’s vastly better than a catastrophic default. Read my full statement here.
Fighting for Women's Rights
This past weekend marked the first anniversary of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade and undermining a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body. The disastrous decision in Dobbs v. Jackson overturned 50 years of legal precedent and has made it harder for millions across the country to access reproductive health care.
That’s why I joined my colleagues in filing a discharge petition this week to force the House to vote on the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would re-establish the right to access abortion care nationwide. Abortion is health care, and I will keep working to ensure everyone has access to the reproductive health care they need.
Progress on Removing San Onofre Nuclear Waste
Addressing spent fuel at San Onofre is one of my top priorities That's why I was happy to host Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm at San Onofre. Together, we announced the Department of Energy has selected 13 groups to facilitate engagement and dialogue on consent-based siting to store the nation's spent nuclear fuel! I also announced the reintroduction of my Spent Fuel Prioritization Act to prioritize the removal of spent nuclear fuel from decommissioned sites in areas with large populations and where it may pose a national security risk, like San Onofre.

While there is much more work to do, this is real progress towards removing San Onofre's spent fuel.
Banning Offshore Oil Drilling
On World Oceans Day, I reintroduced my Southern California Coast and Ocean Protection Act to prohibit any new leasing for the exploration, development, or production of oil or natural gas along the Southern California coast. We must protect our coastal ecosystem and economy from offshore drilling. Read more about this legislation here.
Supporting Our Local Economy
Our local businesses are critical to our economy.
That's why I joined the San Diego Chamber of Commerce and my congressional colleagues for the annual Congressional Luncheon to hear directly from business owners in the community about their top priorities and discuss how federal funding will impact our region.
Addressing Burglary Tourism in Orange County
Two weeks ago, I sent a letter to the Chilean Ambassador about crimes associated with burglary tourism. Chile is in the Visa Waiver Program, making it easier for Chileans to travel here. But if the Chilean government won’t help us prevent organized crime from taking advantage of the program, I believe the country should not be allowed to participate in it. As always, it's an honor to represent you in Congress. Remember to follow my Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram pages, and sign up for my e-newsletter for the latest updates from my office.
Sincerely,
Mike Levin Member of Congress
