VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump ruins his own legal case live on stage
Well, that didn't take long. Yesterday we noted the delay in Trump's federal trial on 37 felony charges for illegally hoarding classified documents and obstructing the government's efforts to recover them would simply provide the disgraced ex-president with more opportunities to incriminate himself in public. The accused rapist and traitor wasted no time in doing just that, stepping before a podium in Washington, DC and confessing to his crimes in an impressively stupid display of defiance.

Conservative legal icon rips "spineless" Republicans for "colossal" Trump mistake
J. Michael Luttig, a former federal judge once lauded by the right for his conservative legal opinions, delivered a scathing rebuke of the GOP over its continued fealty to the disgraced ex-president and suggested the party may be "beyond saving." We here at atAdvocacy would argue that was the case long before Trump, the but the serial grifter and self-aggrandizing chaos agent certainly ratcheted the bedlam up to unseen levels.

Nancy Pelosi says there "certainly should be term limits" for Supreme Court justices, leaves door open for expansion
Hear, hear! While we're on the subject, how about implementing literally any congressional oversight to combat the rampant influence peddling by GOP megadonors that's undermining Americans' fundamental faith in the nation's highest court?

Without paid family leave, teachers stockpile sick days and aim for summer babies
Less than one fifth of the nation's largest school districts offer paid parental leave for teachers. In many places, that leaves a teacher who wants to have a baby with few options: take limited unpaid leave, save up sick leave, hope for colleagues to share their sick leave, pay for their own substitute teacher, or try to time the birth for summer break. Let that sink in. This is America. This is how we treat those entrusted with caring for and educating tomorrow's leaders. This is who we are.

Russian defense minister makes first public appearance since mercenary revolt
Uncertainty swirled about the fate of Yevgeny Prigozhin, the former Putin ally who led a brief armed rebellion, his 25,000-strong Wagner mercenary group, and the two military chiefs with whom he has clashed over the conduct of the brutal war in Ukraine. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu made his first public appearance since the armed uprising demanded his ouster, inspecting troops in Ukraine in a video aimed at projecting a sense of order after the beleaguered country’s most serious political crisis in decades.
Ex-Trump ambassador wants to run for US Senate on his record of retweets
Jeffrey Ross Gunter’s year-and-a-half tenure as US ambassador to Iceland under Donald Trump was, by many accounts, a chaotic mess. Gunter churned through staff, lashed out at employees, demanded a gun and armed security guards in the world’s safest country, and apparently tried to do the job remotely in California during the pandemic. Now he's seriously considering a run for US Senate in Nevada — touting his retweets and Facebook posts. In Gunter's defense, his former boss ran for president on a record of retweeting racist bullshit and firing fake employees on a reality TV show, so it's not such a stretch by Republican Party standards.

Black veterans are denied VA health benefits more often than white veterans, new data shows
In fiscal year 2023, 84.8% of all Black veterans who applied for physical or mental health benefits were given assistance by the VA, compared to 89.4% of their white counterparts who applied. Stop us if you've heard this before, but maybe, just maybe, there's something systemically askew here...

Today’s Action: Pass the PRO Act and protect the right to unionize!
Though labor movements have been around for more than a century, corrupt bigwigs are still working overtime to ensure their employees aren’t compensated properly for their work in the face of growing worker power. The National Labor Relation Board’s Seattle office filed a complaint against Starbucks last year for violating US labor law with extreme union-busting tactics, such as withholding benefits and pay raises from unionizing stores. Just a few months ago, corporate employees of the coffee giant sent an open letter fighting back against the store’s continued overreaction to union efforts. We can’t allow workers to continue fighting these greedy corporations on their own — it’s time for our legislators to step up and fully protect the right to unionize.
Starbucks is far from the only guilty corporation. Currently, the longest newspaper strike in decades is taking place at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The workers have been on strike for more than eight months demanding better healthcare and wages. There’s strength in numbers, and the labor movement certainly has that, but if certain senators don’t stop holding up the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act to provide more equitable conditions for all workers, the fallout across the American workforce will only worsen.
The fact is, when unions thrive, American workers and families thrive. It’s really that simple. Corporate America’s desperate efforts to get everyone back to work after the pandemic has reminded workers everywhere they’re worth more than low pay, low benefits, long hours, and emotional abuse from unappreciative bosses.
Call (202-224-3121) or write your senators and ask them to support the PRO Act in solidarity with the growing labor movement across the country! Send them this petition with almost 40,000 signatures in favor of its passage!
