TransCanada finally faced the music yesterday with the investor community -- admitting during the company's annual meeting that it "sees too much uncertainty to commit immediately to the long-delayed Keystone XL oil pipeline project." [1]
So after over 10 years, this company that has been spending millions to try to push its dirty tarsands pipeline across the fragile Sandhills and precious Ogallala aquifer is "not ready to commit" to the project?
What a statement to make on the eve of Valentine's Day!
Somebody should tell TransCanada: "We were never into you."
This amazing news is evidence that our bold action and organizing on the grassroots level has investors in the tarsands running scared [2], and unwilling to back the risky KXL project that would be devastating for our climate.

When asked about the status of Keystone XL, TransCanada told investors: "If we can get comfort that the risk-reward proposition is attractive to us, we will proceed. If we can’t line all that up, the project will stay where it is."
"The project will stay where it is." (i.e. No KXL pipe in the ground ever... We love the sound of that!)
While over 70 landowners continue to file their defenses in court against TransCanada's claims of eminent domain to take their land, we're continuing to support ongoing organizing in rural communities.
We'll host upcoming meetings for KXL landowners on Feb. 20 and Feb. 28th -- when a controversial TransCanada permit application will also face a "public hearing" before the Holt County Board of Supervisors.
