REALLY???

Rape of an unconscious person might not pass the Assembly Public Safety Committee?

“Learn how you can support SB268, legislation sponsored by Senator Marie Alvarado-Gil (D), a survivor of sexual assault and the first woman to represent CA Senate District 4. This proposed legislation would classify rape of an unconscious person as a violent felony.”
______________
After being passed, with unanimous support, out of the Senate Public Safety Committee and Senate floor, we are facing another hurdle to pass through the Assembly Public Safety Committee.
This committee will NOT be doing phone testimony, only in person comments/testimony
Not an easy ask, especially for those of us who live a considerable distance from Sacramento, but bringing a face and voice to this cause is too important not to show up.

Report by the ACLU that states "The Legal System Has Failed Black Girls, Women, and Non-Binary Survivors of Violence.

Studies have shown that Black girls, women, and non-binary people are hyper-vulnerable to abuse. About 22 percent of Black women in the United States have experienced rape — and Black women are killed at a higher rate than any other group of women. A 2015 survey of Black trans and non-binary individuals found that 53 percent have experienced sexual violence, and 56 percent have experienced domestic violence."
