The Selective Service System was created in 1940, in preparation for U.S. participation in World War II.

In the years since, it has been used to create drafts for the waging of horrible murderous wars in Korea and Vietnam. Since 1980, it has wasted hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars on maintaining an obsolete and unnecessary system by the military's own understanding.

While the U.S. military is all-volunteer for now, keeping the Selective Service System alive keeps open the possibility of a return to a military draft.

The Pentagon agrees that no military or national security threat justifies reinstating a draft. So, why force young people to register? Keeping the Selective Service System in place is wasteful, unjust, dangerous, and wrongheaded.

Add your name now and urge Congress to abolish the Selective Service System and close the door on a military draft.
