MARCH ON is dedicated to increasing voter turnout and driving Democrats to the polls. Our data-driven solutions led the way for progressive victories in 2020 and 2022. Now, we're gearing up to stop Trump’s comeback in 2024.

Dear Friend,

Happy Pride Month!

For our last Pride Month spotlight on impactful trans and nonbinary lawmakers, we’re celebrating Rep. Danica Roem of Virginia.

Roem won her election to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2018, defeating a 13-term Republican incumbent who had sponsored a barrage of anti-LGBTQ+ bills. Upon her victory, Delegate Roem became the first openly transgender person to be elected and serve in any U.S. state legislature.

In the House of Delegates, Roem cemented herself as a leader on transportation – and she successfully fought to secure $24 million to fix Route 28 in her home district..

Roem also led the passage of LGBTQ+ anti-discrimination bills and criticized Governor Youngkin’s administration for rolling back LGBTQ+ protections. A former journalist, Roem has co-sponsored legislation to protect freedom of the press for student journalists facing censorship by their schools.

Now, Danica Roem is running for State Senate to continue her work to improve transportation and advance LGBTQ+ equality in Virginia.

Friend – as Pride Month comes to a close, we encourage you to follow leaders like Danica Roem, Mauree Turner, Sarah McBride, and Zooey Zephyr by keeping up the fight to pass federal protections for LGBTQ+ Americans!

Since 1974, Democrats have introduced the Equality Act and other anti-discrimination bills aimed at passing federal LGBTQ+ protections – but these bills have never passed the Senate.

So we’re urging our Senators to make history by finally passing the Equality Act and sending it to President Biden’s desk!

Thank you for taking action with us this Pride Month!
