We have a plan to ensure that Donald Trump never steps foot inside the
White House again—but it's not what you think.
The 14th Amendment to our Constitution states clearly that no person who
has previously held elected office in the United States and then
participates in an insurrection may ever hold public office again, which
means that Trump is already disqualified from running in the 2024
election.^1 Now all we have to do is call on secretaries of state—the
officials who oversee the administration of elections at the state
level—to follow the law and keep Trump off the ballot.
MoveOn members worked for months in 2022 to ensure that Trump's
hand-picked candidates for secretary of state, all of whom had pledged to
help him steal the 2024 election, lost their races, and together we
elected champions of our democracy who have pledged to protect our votes.
These individuals believe in the law and are not willing to give Donald
Trump a free pass.
Which means there is a very clear pathway to succeeding in keeping him off
the ballot. Now we just need to keep the pressure up.

Months ago, MoveOn members began calling for secretaries of state, from
Maine to California, to turn Trump away when he applies to have his name
placed on the ballot.
And now we're escalating that call by releasing a brand-new video made
with former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich that breaks down exactly
why Trump is disqualified and calls on voters to get involved in our
campaign.
Getting this message out far and wide is critical to building momentum for
our campaign.

The problem, as we see it, is that far from Trump's behavior hurting his
chances, his poll numbers with Republicans are getting stronger, and his
fundraising is growing.^2,3 If he is allowed to run, it is nearly a
foregone conclusion that he will be the Republican nominee.
And, with recent polling showing Trump ahead of President Joe Biden by
anywhere from 3 to 6 points, after that, it is anyone's ballgame.^4
That is why our secretaries of state must act now.
They make the ultimate determination as to whether a candidate is
qualified for the office they seek. Does the candidate meet the residency
requirement? Are they old enough? Have they ever engaged in insurrection?
On that last question, the answer is obvious, and we need your help. Will

To be clear, what we are demanding is not far-fetched. In fact,
disqualification for insurrection, the exact same provision that must be
satisfied with Trump, was recently used in New Mexico to bar a man from
holding office or ever running again.^5
Because once Trump gets on the ballot, all bets are off. But if we can
prevent him from getting there in the first place, we save our country
from one of the most dangerous white supremacists ever to set foot in the
White House. A man who will roll back all we have won for women, for the
LGBTQ+ community, for communities of color, and for low-income families
across our country.
