Earlier this month, I cosponsored the reintroduction of the Social Security 2100 Act, which would increase social security benefits for the first time in over 50 years to ensure these benefits keep pace with rising inflation.
Across the country, many seniors are struggling to keep up with inflation, rising rents, and other housing costs. This plan seeks to alleviate this struggle while also supporting children and expanding a disability program that more veterans rely on than even the VA.
This is common-sense legislation; however, I am afraid that the hard-right fringe of the Republican Party will kill this legislation. After they shut down votes in protest of the bipartisan debt ceiling deal, I worry that the dysfunction in the Republican Party will stop us from showing up for our most vulnerable constituents.
If we want to pass more anti-poverty legislation and strengthen the social safety net, we need to take back the House in 2024. As a Frontline Democrat, I am one of just a few facing the biggest attacks from Republicans in Washington.
Help me keep this competitive seat blue and keep fighting for our seniors, disabled individuals, and our future by chipping in $20 or more to my critical re-election campaign fund!
