Dear John,

This week, we introduced you to Toronto’s leading Mayoral candidates, mourned the loss of four Israelis to terrorism, and condemned hateful graffiti in Toronto.

Read on to learn more.

The CIJA Team

June 26 is Election Day in Toronto, and CIJA is here to help you “Meet Your Next Mayor <[link removed]>.”

CIJA asked Jewish Torontonians to tell us what matters most when choosing the next Toronto Mayor. Many community members did, and we passed that information along to leading mayoral candidates, and they responded.

Watch what they had to say about what matters to you, here <[link removed]>.

Toronto’s next mayor will have a profound impact on our city and our community. From safety and security to housing affordability and food insecurity, the Jewish community’s priorities are as diverse as our members, and CIJA will work closely with the successful candidate to move forward these issues of concern.

On Tuesday, two Palestinians opened fire at a restaurant and gas station near Eli, an Israeli settlement in the West Bank, killing four Israelis and wounding many others.

We join the global community in mourning the loss of Eli residents 18-year-old Elisha Anteman and 64-year-old Ofer Feirman,17-year-old Nachman Mordoff, and 21-year-old Harel Masoud. May their memory be for a blessing.

Since the start of 2023, 25 people in Israel have been murdered by terrorists. There have been 152 terrorist shooting attacks. And 43 Israelis have been wounded by terrorists.

On Thursday, CIJA was made aware of violent antisemitic graffiti in downtown Toronto. We are working with UJA Federation of Greater Toronto Community Security and Toronto law enforcement to report the incident and to ensure the safety and security of the local Jewish community.

Such hatred has no place in Toronto, in Canada, or anywhere!
