John, today marks one year of living in a post-Roe world.
People are being forced to continue pregnancies they either did not want or that directly threaten their health and safety as restrictions and outright bans on abortion have gone into effect in dozens of states. Conservatives have pushed to ban lifesaving abortion pills. Communities, especially marginalized communities, are struggling to access reproductive health care more than ever before. Medical professionals are fleeing states with abortion bans, and young adults with the ability to do so are changing their education and career plans to avoid states where they won’t have the freedom to make their own health care decisions.
While much of this past year has been embroiled in horror and uncertainty, there’s still hope. State and local governments are on the front lines to protect and expand abortion access. It’s time for us, the pro-choice majority, to do the work to secure lasting power — whether it’s winning elections, raising money or organizing voters.
The fall of Roe wasn’t an accident. It was an orchestrated, decades-long investment by the GOP in state elections across the country. On the flip side, if we make long-term investments in progressive candidates in all 50 states and at all levels of government, we can protect and expand reproductive rights and abortion access.
The change we can create by electing young progressives is vital – that’s why I do this work. So can you chip in $5 to help our Run for Something candidates win, build progressive power and defend reproductive freedom? >>
